The Libertines were at the vanguard of the early 2000s garage rock revival. Fronted by friends Pete Doherty and Carl Barat, the band was seen by the UK press as the next in a long line of groups animated by combustible and competitive partnerships, such as the Beatles, Oasis, and the Kinks.
